ROMs

Permanent memory chips

ROMs is the plural of ROM, which stands for read-only memory—computer memory that retains data permanently and cannot be modified during normal operation.

In gaming and retro computing circles, ROMs more commonly refers to digital copies of software originally stored on game cartridges or arcade boards: I downloaded some old Nintendo ROMs to play on an emulator.

The legal status of ROM files depends on copyright and whether you own the original hardware.
