NFT

Blockchain art certificate

An NFT (non-fungible token) is a digital certificate of ownership recorded on a blockchain, typically for digital art, collectibles, or media files.

Unlike cryptocurrency, each NFT is unique and not interchangeable—hence "non-fungible." The technology exploded in popularity around 2021, with some digital artworks selling for millions: He sold an NFT of his artwork for $50,000.

Critics question whether NFTs confer meaningful ownership, since the underlying files can still be freely copied.
