Mir
Soviet space habitat
Mir was the Soviet and later Russian space station that orbited Earth from 1986 to 2001.
It served as a pioneering laboratory for long-duration spaceflight and international cooperation, hosting astronauts from multiple countries before being deliberately deorbited into the Pacific Ocean.
Cosmonauts spent months aboard Mir conducting experiments. (Lowercase mir is a Russian word for village commune or peace.)
