sea-level
Altitude's starting point
Sea-level functions as an adjective describing something at or relative to the average height of the ocean's surface: sea-level rise, sea-level pressure.
It modifies nouns where the unhyphenated phrase "sea level" would be awkward: sea-level measurements show acceleration.
The hyphen signals the compound works as a unit before a noun.
