Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States, serving from 1929 to 1933.
His presidency coincided with the 1929 stock market crash and the beginning of the Great Depression, which permanently associated his name with economic catastrophe—shantytown encampments became known as Hoovervilles.
Before politics, Hoover was a wealthy mining engineer and humanitarian who organized food relief efforts during World War I.
