meetinghouse
Community worship building
A meetinghouse is a building where people gather for worship or community business.
The term is most associated with Quakers, whose plain meetinghouses reflect their rejection of ornate churches, and with early New England Puritans, whose meetinghouses served both religious and civic functions.
The old meetinghouse still stands in the town center.
