Lyndon B. Johnson

Lyndon B.

Johnson was the 36th President of the United States, serving from 1963 to 1969.

He assumed office after John F.

Kennedy's assassination and won election in his own right in 1964.

His presidency produced landmark civil rights legislation and the Great Society programs, but became consumed by the Vietnam War, which eroded his political support.

Often called LBJ, he declined to seek reelection in 1968.
