Dubuque

Mississippi River port

Dubuque is a city in northeastern Iowa on the Mississippi River, the oldest European settlement in the state.

Named after French-Canadian fur trader Julien Dubuque, it served as an early lead-mining center.

The name appears in references to Midwestern geography and occasionally as shorthand for heartland America: What will they think of this in Dubuque?
