Hare Krishna

Chanting robed movement

Hare Krishna refers to a Hindu mantra and the religious movement centered on it.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, founded in 1966, brought the practice to Western attention through public chanting and proselytizing.

Members are called Hare Krishnas: The Hare Krishnas at the airport offered me a flower.

The mantra itself invokes the names of Hindu deities: They chanted Hare Krishna for hours.
