Quakerism
Society of Friends
Quakerism is the beliefs and practices of the Religious Society of Friends, a Christian movement founded in 17th-century England.
Quakers emphasize direct experience of God without clergy or formal sacraments, silent worship, pacifism, and equality of all people.
The name came from early members who were said to "quake" at the word of God.
Her Quakerism shaped her commitment to social justice.
