Theravada Buddhism
Elder monks' path
Theravada Buddhism is the oldest surviving branch of Buddhism, dominant in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos.
It emphasizes the original teachings of the Buddha as preserved in the Pali Canon, focusing on individual enlightenment through meditation, ethical conduct, and monastic discipline.
Theravada means "way of the elders," distinguishing it from the later Mahayana traditions.
He spent three months at a Theravada monastery in Thailand.
