Southwark
South London area
Southwark is a borough of London on the south bank of the Thames, directly across from the City of London.
Historically a place of theaters, prisons, and industries barred from the city proper—Shakespeare's Globe stood there.
The name is pronounced "SUTH-uk," with the middle syllable swallowed: We crossed the bridge into Southwark.
