metroplex

Merged metropolitan area

A metroplex is a large metropolitan area, especially one formed by multiple cities that have grown together into a continuous urban region.

The term is most associated with the Dallas–Fort Worth area in Texas, often called simply the Metroplex.

It emphasizes interconnected urban sprawl rather than a single dominant city: Housing prices across the metroplex have risen sharply.
