Great Moravia
Medieval Slavic state
Great Moravia was a Slavic state that flourished in Central Europe during the ninth century, encompassing parts of modern Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland.
It was the first major political entity of the West Slavic peoples and played a crucial role in spreading Christianity and literacy among Slavs—missionaries Cyril and Methodius developed the Glagolitic alphabet there.
The state collapsed around 907 under Magyar invasions.
