Habsburg Empire
Central European realm
The Habsburg Empire refers to the territories ruled by the House of Habsburg, a European royal dynasty that at various times controlled Austria, Hungary, Spain, the Netherlands, and parts of Italy and Germany.
The term most often designates the Austrian-centered empire that dominated Central Europe from the late medieval period until its dissolution after World War I in 1918.
The Habsburg Empire was a patchwork of nationalities and languages held together by dynastic loyalty.
