General Tso's chicken is an American Chinese dish of battered, deep-fried chicken pieces coated in a sweet, slightly spicy sauce.
Despite the name—a reference to a 19th-century Qing dynasty military leader—the dish has no authentic Chinese origin and was developed for American palates: We ordered General Tso's chicken and fried rice.
