Eli Whitney
Cotton gin inventor
Eli Whitney was an American inventor best known for the cotton gin (1793), a machine that efficiently separated cotton fibers from seeds.
The device transformed Southern agriculture and inadvertently deepened reliance on slave labor.
Whitney also pioneered interchangeable parts in manufacturing, a concept that would later revolutionize American industry.
