James Watt
Horsepower term originator
James Watt was an 18th-century Scottish inventor and engineer whose improvements to the steam engine helped power the Industrial Revolution.
His refinements made steam power practical for factories and transportation.
The watt, the standard unit of power, is named after him: a 60-watt bulb, kilowatts per hour.
