Timor
Split Southeast Asian
Timor is an island in maritime Southeast Asia, divided politically between Indonesia (West Timor) and the independent nation of Timor-Leste (East Timor).
The island sits at the eastern end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, north of Australia.
East Timor gained independence from Indonesia in 2002 after a long struggle, making it one of the world's youngest nations.
The name derives from a Malay word meaning "east."
