Donetsk
Eastern Ukrainian city
Donetsk is a city in eastern Ukraine, historically an industrial center for coal mining and steel production.
It became internationally prominent after 2014 when Russian-backed separatists declared it capital of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, making it a focal point of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
