Luhansk
Contested Ukrainian oblast
Luhansk is a city in eastern Ukraine, capital of the Luhansk region.
Since 2014, it has been controlled by Russian-backed separatists who declared the unrecognized "Luhansk People's Republic," later annexed by Russia in 2022.
The city and region feature prominently in news about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine's Donbas area.
