Kherson

Dnieper River city

Kherson is a city in southern Ukraine on the Dnieper River near the Black Sea.

Founded in 1778 as a Russian shipbuilding center, it became internationally prominent during Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine—occupied early in the war, then recaptured by Ukrainian forces later that year.

Russian troops withdrew from Kherson in November.
