Dolomites

Northeastern Italian range

The Dolomites are a mountain range in northeastern Italy, part of the Alps, known for distinctive pale limestone peaks with dramatic vertical walls and spires.

The rock itself—dolomite—is named for French geologist Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu, who first described its composition.

We spent a week hiking in the Dolomites.
