Apennines

Italy's mountain range

The Apennines are the mountain range running the length of the Italian peninsula, forming its geological spine from the north near Genoa down to the southern tip.

Unlike the Alps to the north, these mountains are lower and more rounded.

The range has historically divided eastern and western Italy: villages scattered through the Apennines, crossing the Apennines by train.
