uno

One, in Spanish

Uno is the Spanish and Italian word for "one," encountered in English mainly through the card game of the same name.

In that game, players must call out Uno! when down to their last card.

The word also appears in phrases borrowed from Spanish: número uno means number one, often used to mean oneself or the top position. (Capitalized UNO is an acronym for the United Nations Organization.)
