Czar Nicholas
Romanov dynasty ruler
Czar Nicholas refers to one of two Russian emperors.
Nicholas I (reigned 1825–1855) was known for autocratic rule and suppressing dissent.
Nicholas II (reigned 1894–1917) was Russia's last czar, whose reign ended with the Bolshevik Revolution; he and his family were executed in 1918.
Without qualification, the name usually refers to Nicholas II: Czar Nicholas failed to anticipate the revolution that would destroy his dynasty.
