czarism
Russian monarchical despotism
Czarism is autocratic government, especially the imperial Russian system under the czars before the 1917 revolution.
The term emphasizes absolute power concentrated in a single ruler, with little regard for individual rights or democratic process: The protesters accused the regime of returning to czarism.
