Bengal tiger
India's largest cat
The Bengal tiger is a tiger subspecies native to the Indian subcontinent, the most numerous of wild tigers.
Its orange coat with black stripes makes it the archetypal tiger of popular imagination.
Bengal tigers once roamed throughout India; now fewer than three thousand remain in the wild.
White tigers are a color variant of this subspecies.
