Sumatran tiger

Striped island predator

A Sumatran tiger is the smallest surviving tiger subspecies, found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Distinguished by darker fur and closer-set stripes than other tigers, it is critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching: Fewer than 400 Sumatran tigers remain in the wild.
