BBS
Pre-web online communities
BBS stands for bulletin board system, an early form of online community that flourished before the World Wide Web.
Users dialed in via modem to post messages, share files, and play text-based games.
Each BBS was typically run by a single operator from a home computer.
I spent hours on local BBSes in the early nineties.
The term now evokes nostalgia for pre-internet digital culture.
