boarder

Room and meals

A boarder is someone who pays for lodging and meals at another person's residence: The widow took in boarders to make ends meet.

In schools, a boarder lives on campus rather than commuting—the opposite of a day student.

The word also refers to someone who boards a vessel, whether legitimately or by force, and to practitioners of board sports: snowboarder, skateboarder.
