2D animation
Hand-drawn moving pictures
2D animation is the art of creating movement in a two-dimensional space, using sequences of drawings or digital images that change slightly from frame to frame.
Traditional 2D animation involved hand-drawn frames photographed in sequence; modern techniques use software to manipulate flat images.
The style remains distinct from 3D computer animation, which renders objects with depth and volume: Studio Ghibli is famous for its 2D animation.
Also called traditional animation or cel animation, though digital 2D work has largely replaced physical cels.
