pencil test
Rough sketch review
A pencil test has several specialized meanings across different fields.
In animation, it's a rough preliminary version using simple pencil drawings to check timing and movement before full production.
In materials science, it measures coating hardness by scratching with pencils of increasing hardness.
The term also refers to a now-discredited method once used to determine racial classification in apartheid South Africa, where a pencil was placed in a person's hair to see if it would stay or fall out.
In hair care, a similar test helps determine curl pattern and texture.
