world championship
Top international competition
A world championship is a competition to determine the best in a sport or activity on a global scale.
The term often names specific recurring events: the World Chess Championship, the FIFA World Cup.
A world championship can also refer to the title itself: She won her third world championship last year.
Some "world" championships are regional in practice—the baseball World Series involves only North American teams.
