persimmon

Orange fall fruit

A persimmon is a sweet, orange fruit that grows on trees of the same name.

The fruit is intensely astringent when unripe but becomes soft and honey-sweet when fully ripe.

Two main varieties exist: the small, acorn-shaped American persimmon and the larger, tomato-shaped Asian persimmon found in most grocery stores.

Wait until the persimmon is completely soft before eating it.
