wheel-throwing

Ceramic shaping technique

Wheel-throwing is the craft of shaping clay pottery on a rotating wheel.

The potter centers a lump of clay on the spinning wheel and uses hands and fingers to draw it upward into bowls, vases, or other vessels: She's been learning wheel-throwing at the ceramics studio.

The technique dates back thousands of years and remains central to studio pottery.
