pugging
Filling with clay
Pugging is the process of packing clay or similar material between floor joists or into walls to deaden sound and provide insulation.
Common in older construction, pugging creates a dense layer that reduces noise transmission between floors.
In ceramics, pugging refers to mixing and kneading clay to achieve uniform consistency, typically using a machine called a pug mill.
