water-wheel

Stream-powered rotator

A water-wheel is a large wheel with paddles or buckets around its rim, turned by flowing or falling water to generate power.

Before steam engines, water-wheels drove mills for grinding grain, sawing lumber, and other mechanical work: The old mill's water-wheel still turns, though it powers nothing now.
