undershot
Fell before target
Undershot describes something driven or operated by water flowing beneath it.
An undershot water wheel turns as current passes under it, pushing the lower paddles—less efficient than overshot wheels fed from above.
The term also describes a jaw that protrudes beyond the upper jaw: an undershot bulldog.
As a past form of undershoot, it means falling short of a target: The plane undershot the runway.
