vermouth

Martini's herbal half

Vermouth is a fortified wine flavored with aromatic herbs, roots, and spices—most prominently wormwood, from which the name derives.

It comes in two main styles: dry (white, used in martinis) and sweet (red, used in Manhattans and negronis).

She preferred her martini with extra vermouth.

Vermouth is also drinkable on its own, especially in European café culture.
