amaro

Herbal after-dinner drink

Amaro is an Italian herbal liqueur, typically bitter and drunk as a digestif after meals.

The name comes from the Italian word for bitter.

Amari (the plural) vary widely in flavor—some taste of citrus peel and gentian, others of artichoke or alpine herbs.

We finished dinner with a round of amaro.
