velo
Pedal-powered transport
Velo is a clipped form of velocipede, an old term for early bicycles and similar human-powered vehicles.
The word survives mainly in cycling contexts—velodromes are cycling tracks, and velo appears in brand names and cycling culture: a velo club, velo gear.
In some European languages, velo remains the standard word for bicycle.
