velocities

How fast things go

Velocities is the plural of velocity, meaning speeds—especially speeds in a particular direction.

In physics, velocity differs from speed by including direction: an object moving at 60 mph north has a different velocity than one moving at 60 mph south.

Outside technical contexts, the words are often interchangeable: The pitcher throws at high velocities, market velocities.
