immunogen
Immune response starter
An immunogen is a substance capable of provoking an immune response in the body.
While all immunogens are antigens—molecules that can bind to immune system components—not all antigens are immunogenic enough to trigger a response on their own.
The term appears frequently in vaccine development and immunology research, where scientists work to identify or create effective immunogens.
The researchers tested several candidate immunogens before selecting one for the vaccine trial.
