immunize

Protect against disease

To immunize is to make someone immune to a disease, typically through vaccination: Children are immunized against measles before starting school.

The word extends to protection from non-medical threats: No amount of wealth immunizes you from grief.

In law, to immunize a witness is to grant them immunity from prosecution in exchange for testimony.
