understeer

Front tires slide

Understeer is a handling condition in which a vehicle turns less sharply than the driver intends, with the front wheels losing grip and the car drifting wide of the intended path.

The opposite of oversteer.

Common in front-wheel-drive vehicles: I hit the corner too fast and understeered into the barrier.

As a noun: The car has built-in understeer for stability.
