wash-out
Complete disaster, slang
A wash-out is a failure or disappointment—a person who didn't meet expectations or an event that fell flat: The party was a complete wash-out.
The term derives from the image of something being washed away or eroded, as when rain ruins an outdoor event or flooding destroys a road.
In British slang, calling someone a wash-out suggests they've failed to fulfill their potential.
