tzars
Imperial Russian rulers
Tzars is a plural of tzar, an alternative spelling of czar or tsar—the title of Russian emperors before 1917.
The spelling with tz reflects German transliteration conventions.
Like czar, it extends to powerful authorities: drug tzars, energy tzars.
All three spellings are acceptable, though czar predominates in American English.
