transcranial

Across the skull

Transcranial means through or across the skull.

The term appears almost exclusively in medical contexts, describing procedures or techniques that access or stimulate the brain without opening the skull: transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial ultrasound.

The prefix distinguishes these approaches from more invasive intracranial procedures.
