trans person
Identity differs from assignment
A trans person is someone whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.
The term is short for transgender person and encompasses a range of identities, including trans men (assigned female at birth, identify as male), trans women (assigned male at birth, identify as female), and nonbinary individuals.
My coworker is a trans person who uses they/them pronouns.
The term emerged as preferred language in the late 20th century, replacing older clinical terminology.
